Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa Renovation Anouncement

1. What are the updated completion dates of the areas that are being upgraded

  1. Swimming Pool: 15 March 2011
  2. Coco Joes Bar & Grill: 15 March 2011
  3. Cool Box Ice Cream Bar: 18 March 2011
  4. Sunset Bar: Complete (opened on 18 Feb 2011)
  5. Health Club:
  • Gym (ex Blue Note): 3 March 2011
  • Health Club: 9 March 2011
  • Kinabalu Wing roof repairs:
  • Above Rooms: Complete
  • Above Offices: 9 March 2011
  • Above lift shaft: 20 March 2011
  • Kinabalu Wing Balconies: 31 March 2011 (currently 75% of rooms are complete)

2. What is the extent of the disturbance from noise, dust etc.

  • Swimming Pool and Ice Cream Bar: Intermittent noise from interior building work – sawing, sanding etc
  • Kinabalu Wing roof repairs: distant noise with some hammering
  • Kinabalu Wing Balconies: Low noise – installing glass

3. What are the upgrading work hours

  • Work with Noise: 8.30am – 6.00pm
  • Low Noise: 6.00pm – 10.00pm
  • No Noise: 10.00pm to 9.00am

4. How much of the work can be seen from the Guest Rooms

  • Swimming Pool: Site can be seen from Kinabalu Wing guest rooms and some public areas, with low hoarding surrounding site area. Swimming pool is currently full of water, landscaping going in and the site becomes more complete each day
  • All areas where there is work going on will be hoarded and/or taped to prevent access and provide some visual blocking as required.

5. How many workers will be involved

  • Swimming pool: Maximum 100 workers, diminishing to 50 workers after 7 March.
  • Other areas: 10 workers

6. What machinery or tools will be involved

  • Drills, hammers, saws, etc.

7. Will there be any disruption of utilities (eg power or water)

  • No. The resort also has full back up generators in the unlikely event that there is a problem.

8. Can rooms away from the work be guaranteed for our guests

  • We will take all possible steps to provide the most suitable accommodation for all of our guests according to requirements and occupancy

9. How do I enjoy resort facilities during the period

  • All other facilities will be operating as normal. The beach, gardens and restaurants and bars can be enjoyed. The resort sits on 25 acres of land. There are areas in the gardens that guests can use to relax.
  • There will be a complimentary shuttle bus, following the existing schedule, to Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria resort for guests to use the swimming pool there.

The journey takes approximately 45 minutes either way and the schedule is as follows:
